What's To Know?
Hello and a warm welcome to you, fellow reader. Let me first begin with my many thanks for taking the time to explore the following set of pages I've produced for your eyes, and YOUR eyes only, got it?
Well, shall we start off a tad cliche'? My name is Brett Cooper and I was born on May 4. 1995 In Brampton, Ontario Canada. I have been an employee at Longos since September of 2010. I love Starbucks, running and going to the gym. An aspiring young journalist since the age of 7, I was first introduced to the art of literature and creative writing in the fourth grade. Throughout that year, our teacher had provided us with journals, assigning us a new project each week, whether it be a poem or a short story. I was always told that I had a special knack for expressing myself with ink, but never to the degree where I considered it as my very future. However, as other kids my age were quick to abandon the beauty of creative writing/journalism in the following years, I had indeed discovered a newborn thirst which had to be quenched on a daily basis. I continued to produce poem after poem, entry after entry of anything and everything, as I was inspired by even the smallest of things the world had to offer. The clicking of the television was by no means my favourite sound as a child, but instead the unmistakable scratching of ballpoint against a lined sheet of paper. It truly took my breath away, the sheer infinity of it all. Never running out of ideas, an endless stream which lead to a sea of jumbled thoughts. Writing was my cookie jar, as I'd come home and routinely pick a new thought from my mind and saviour it for hours on end, going through journal after journal. In my following years leading into highschool, I enrolled in the communications technology class, where I was the school's news anchor for my respected semester. In those months, I was taught how to produce works in photoshop and correctly use the machinery that is essential in a newsroom, such a teleprompter. I thoroughly enjoyed this class in particular, all 3 years I have taken it, because of its focus on broadcast journalism, my other love. The idea of being in front of the camera, informing and updating thousands, millions of viewers at once both exhilarates and inspires me.
This year, as I am a senior in my final year of highschool, I shall continue to be take communications technology and also look forward to a new class called Writer's Craft, which I believe will indeed hone my skills in the art of print journalism. To add, I have been playing baseball since the age of 6, but made the decision last fall to give it up to pursue my highest level of education possible. Yes, as you may be wondering, I am a HUGE baseball fan and a complete stat junkie. Sports journalism is yet another sect that ignites the writer within me, as I have spent many a day watching games and picking up on the history of the game. Yes, I did contradict myself, but I promise, that is my lone television exception.
The immensity of the concept of written expression is to this day, beyond me. Video games are not a part of my life, as they do no nothing to challenge me mentally. Why spend your time doing something that doesn't bring out the best in you? Writing does just that. It's an indescribable feeling of euphoria, having the world at your fingertips, being able to produce endless plots and thoughts just with the stroke of the wrist. As, to this day, so many of my peers still do not possess the love for story-writing and being involved with developing the world of literature, I cannot help but arrive at the conclusion that perhaps journalism is a gift, and not a choice. I believe that everyone has the ability to produce a piece whenever and however they wish, but it is those who write for expression that are truly gifted. I write to express myself, I write for personal accomplishment. I write, because, in my opinion, there is no greater blessing than the ability to bring out one's subconscious, one's deepest and darkest thoughts, one's sheer inner brilliance, one's raw emotion, one's self, than through the age-old ritual of literature. I do hope you enjoy my website, and once again, thank you for getting to know a little more about a young man who is determined to do big things in this big world.
Sincerely yours,
Brett Cooper,
